A Sadhu elder from the lands to the south, Balarai is chief of the Iskagua tribe and renowned as a tempered warrior. His tribe is small, and Balarai has always denounced ambition as an evil. He is not interested in conquering the lands of others, merely preserving what his people need. To that end, he has decreed that "Tribe land is sacred, not a bartering piece to be used at market".
However, Balarai was not always so righteous a leader. When he was much younger, the Hopi and Iksagua tribes had gone to war, and he felt it his duty to conquer the Hopi in order to expand Iskagua influence. But because of his inexperience, the war ended in his defeat. For a time he was exiled from the lands, out of Sadhu and into the world of younger races. In his absence, his people would live as servants to the Hopi, and it was feared that the name Iskagua would soon vanish.
He left humbled, with but a few servants, and headed into the north, there to find himself embroiled in new battles in Bharata, the Nordelands, and even Arya. When at last he came to the land of tall scholars and magicians, the infamous dark sovereign Ignas Ishtar had nearly annihilated Aryan civilisation with his madness.
Unwilling to remain a spectator, Balarai made himself a vassal of Noah Ishtar. The good prince, who had sworn an oath to depose his evil brother Ignas, gladly accepted Balarai's assistance when the Sadhu came to offer his help. The common bond of being exiled leaders made them fast friends, and Balarai would witness Noah's final moments when he gave his life to end Ignas' reign.
It has been centuries since that time, and Balarai has freed his people. He was given longevity by Ameretad, the guardian deity sent to assist Noah, for it was said that he still had several great tasks ahead of him. Thus, with long life and the aid of his Aryan comrades, Balarai returned home and drove back the Hopi, restoring the name Iskagua to its rightful place.
In the current age, darkness threatens the land again, this time in the form of the Kriegbesonnenheit. And so Balarai is visited by an old friend with whom he once served in Arya. The last Satrap: Vishtaspa. |
